Reported speech

  Reported speech is used to report what someone says or said.There are two way how to report some information.
1.Diret speech
2.Indirect speech


A.Direct speech
    Example:
    a.July said, "I need the money for the dictionary" (statement)
    b.Dedy asked,"Why don't you want to come to the meeting?" (WH Question)
    c.Gatha told me,"Don't be late!" (Prohibition)
    d.Yena told to Sabila,"Bring your camera,please" (command)
    e.Zerlinda asked me, "Would you like to come to my party?" (request)
    f.Timan asked me,"Do you understand that I love you?"(Yes,no Question)
   

    It can be conclude that: 
     a.DS => utterences which is directly from the speaker
     b.DS usually uses ("...") on the utterences



B.Indirect speech
    Example:
    a.July said that she needed the money for the dictionaary (statement)
    b.Dedy asked me why I didn't want to come to the meeting (question)
    c.Gatha told me not to be late (prohibition)
    d.Yena told to Sabila to bring her camera (command)
    e.Zerlinda asked me whether I would like to come to her party (req)
    f.Timan asked me whether I understood that he loved me (yes,no question)
 

  It can be conclude that:
   a.IS doesn't use ("...")
   b.All types of ID(yes/no question,request,prohibition,command,WH question) should be change into statement in form of Indirect statement.


           
The important things in "Reported speech"
DS yang dibentuk statement harus menggunakan penghubung 'THAT' untuk bisa diubah ke dalam bentuk IS
Example: Bob said,"I'll help you"
               Bob said that would help me

Jika DS dalam bentuk WH Question harus menggunakan kata penghubung question word(5W+1H) sesuai dengan konteks DS tersebut.
Example:
             a.Sam asked,"Where is Amanda?"
                Sam asked where is Amanda was
             b.Diki asked,"What do you talkling about?"
                Diki asked what we were talking about
